So far, I’ve avoided listing sales based in New York for one simple reason: there are already so many resources for finding NY sales, why clutter the internet with more?
I’m making an exception for the Custom Men clearance sale because, well… It’s exceptional! Plus, you can partake in it via the internet. Thus, the rest of us, off the island, get to tap in as well!
Custom Men, as the moniker implies, specializes in custom tailored outfits for men: shirts, suits, pants, sportcoats. They are presently running a summer clearance sale with phenomenal pricing (for custom clothes, that is).
The trick to the pricing is that you have to buy in “bulk.” For instance, you can presently buy 8 cottonable mix shirts for $499, which breaks down to $62.50 each. Not BAD!!!
I’ve never used Custom Men, and, to be honest, although we’ll be in the market for new shirts soon, I wouldn’t feel comfortable placing my first order via the internet. However, next time we’re in NY I’m going to definitely drop by and check out the goods so we can be prepared for next year’s sale!

This is a fantastic, progressively marked-down warehouse sale… the perfect storm of clearance events where the retailer sincerely wants to unload previous seasons’ items quickly. This means that, if you’re willing to wade through clawed through and pawed through crap, and you’re HONEST with yourself about what you really need and what really fits on you, there are great deals to be had… Also, you really NEED to be in the market for high-end, designer duds. As it happens, since I’m in the midst of the baby-making phase of my life, I don’t require Helmut Lang trousers, even at $100 a pop.
So, if you think you still qualify for the fabulousness of a great Barneys sale, read my primer on Barneys New York Warehouse sales, and get armed with more info from the great survival guides listed below, then go, damage your credit card or empty cash from your wallet. Most of all, enjoy yourself!

Hello!!! This is easily one of the top 10 famous sales out there. It’s bi-annual and happens on different dates according to each coastal location (NY or LA).
Here’s the deal, as Paul, over at the Women’s Co-Op in SF, was kind enough to illuminate to me:
Each summer and winter, Barneys holds clearance sales at its various store locations. These sales go on for a month to a month and a half and can include discounts up to 60% off (though that’s rare). After the in-store sales are over, everything else gets shipped off to the two warehouse sale locations (again, in case you weren’t paying attention - NY, LA) and gets marked down from 50-75% off.
The warehouse sales usually run relatively concurrently, but there’s usually a slight date difference. As the warehouse sales progress, the markdowns increase, culminating in a 90% markdown on most merchandise by the end.
As I’ve stated before, are you going to be walking out with muy barato crapo? Umm… No. You’re still going to be shelling out easily $100 per item, but these are items that had previously been priced sometimes in the thousands of dollars.

So unbelievable, but true - despite my best efforts to be properly informed, I missed the boat on the announcement of the dates for the Barneys New York Los Angeles Warehouse Sale. YIPES!!!
Well, folks, it’s here, starting today.
If you don’t already know about the Barneys New York Warehouse Sale, you must live under a rock. It’s about as epic as Filene’s Running of the Brides. Discounts range from 50-75% off on designer clothing. Does this mean you’re going to be strolling out with a bagful of dress pants that you just spent $8 a pop on? Um… No. Think more like $100 for a pair or previously priced $900 shoes. Not bad.
To quote ShopDiary’s experience this past spring:
At the last sale, I got this black Giorgio Armani jacket for $125. It was part of suit that originally retailed for $2895. It was marked down to $1159, then $500 because the matching trousers were missing. The jacket was an “as is” blue tagged item that was marked an additional 75% off. There was nothing wrong with the jacket. Only the pants were missing. And it fits me perfectly! I also got Louboutins and Lanvin ballet flats at 80% off or roughly $100+ each.
The folks over at ShopDiary also bring up a good point - why go to the warehouse sale when you can find the same prices on the same items at the stores? Ahem:
…since the warehouse sale stock is consolidated from all Barneys New York and Barneys Coop stores and brought to Los Angeles and New York for the warehouse sale, there will be more sizes and selection to choose from. And as the warehouse sale progresses, the discounts get better.
